The HOPE Consortium’s World Immunisation & Logistics Summit, held under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, highlighted the efforts put in by the UAE Government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, and the support provided by the nation’s supply chain industry to deliver vaccines worldwide. The two-day virtual summit saw the participation of renowned global healthcare and philanthropic leaders, policy makers, experts, and senior government officials. The summit served as a platform that promoted the message of enhancing global cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, in order to ensure a safer future for everyone around the globe.
The 12th International Fujairah Bunkering & Fuel Oil Forum was held virtually this year, incorporating enlightening discussions between industry experts on diverse topics ranging from global oil markets to decarbonisation of the shipping industry, and from seafarers’ issues to digitalisation of the maritime industry. One of only a few large, fast passenger ferries fueled by natural gas is due to enter service tomorrow sailing between Spain and the Balearic Islands. In addition to being an LNG-fueled vessel, Balearia’s new vessel, the Eleanor Roosevelt, expands the company’s capacity and becomes the longest fast ferry. It is also the first LNG-fueled fast ferry with reciprocating engines.
Oilfield services company Baker Hughes has won a subsea oilfield equipment contract with the Brazilian oil company Petrobras as part of the Marlim and Voador field revitalization plan in the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil.
The Valaris Group completed its financial restructuring emerging from chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings as part of the ongoing restructuring taking place across the offshore sector. The reformatted company reports it eliminated $7.1 billion of debt while continuing to operate the largest fleet of offshore drillships, semisubmersibles, and jackups. Management also expressed cautious optimism in the outlook for the market.
As the first step to restring cruise operations for the summer of 2021 in the Mediterranean, two large ships returned to service on May 1 sailing from Italy. Carnival Corporation’s Costa Cruises returned to service for the first time in 2021, while MSC Cruises started sailing a second large cruise ship.
